VENUS OF WILLENDORF Goddess Statue - Ancient Earth Mother - Sacred Altar Figurine
The Venus of Willendorf or Woman of Willendorf is said to be one of the oldest statues of the human female form. Found on the banks of the Danube River near the town of Willendorf in Austria, this sacred artifact dates to between 24,000-22,000 B.C.E., making it one of the oldest and most famous surviving works of art in the entire world. The original Venus of Willendorf artifact is petite in size and She could fit comfortably in the palm of your hand. This small scale was very deliberate and allowed whoever carved (or, perhaps owned) this figurine to carry it during their nearly daily nomadic travels.
A beautiful and iconic representation of ancient Mother Goddess figurines, the Willendorf Goddess is particularly relevant to women today as a symbol of the beauty of the soft, lush, full-figured, maternal female body that is fertile and abundant in life-energy. The Venus of Willendorf symbolizes the nurturing and support that motherhood creates. She proclaims the power of women as life givers and creatrixes. To many, She is the sacred symbol of life itself, the creative side of womanhood. She teaches us to love and accept ourselves fully — even the flaws, scars and imperfections that make us special and unique.
